For those of you who fancy yourselves as Underwater Archaelogists, Greta Point has all sorts of hidden treasures.

In its early days it was home to the laundry for the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand. The slipways belong to the Wellington Patent Slip Company (1873 -1922, 1922 - 1985), contracted to repair their ships. The laundry was, at the time, one of the largest in the southern hemisphere.
The picture on the left shows the laundry c.1930’s. The right is the Patent Co. slipway. Not too sure on the name of the ship on the slip. If it is a Union ship it could be the Maori 1910 - 1931 or the Rangatira 1931 - 1967. A chocolate fish to the person who correctly identifies it.
